DISCOVER HIDDEN TREASURES AND SCENIC TRAILS IN NORTHERN LA PALMA

Now you can enjoy a full day of hiking, which will allow you to access places not usually visited with the other excursions and from which you will surely take away an unforgettable memory.

This route combines several elements: a gentle hike through a forest where scenes from television series have even been filmed, a taste of traditional, homemade cuisine prepared by Eufrosina, one of those women who have carved out a niche for themselves in the island’s wine industry. And finally, the chance to capture that coveted photo at Porís de Candelaria, a small corner of the island shaped by the residents of Tijarafe, making use of the existing caves.

We begin with a bus ride from the east to the north of the island, arriving in the municipality of Garafía. There, in La Zarza, our hiking route begins, approximately 6 km (2.5 mi) long, taking about 2 hours. The walk winds through slender heather and is accompanied by birdsong, creating an atmosphere straight out of a fairytale. Along the way, we’ll discover some engravings left by the island’s first inhabitants, the impressive Caldera del Agua (Water Caldera), and, of course, one of the reasons why La Palma is known as “beautiful.” Our arrival at the well-known Plaza del Gallo (Rooster Square) marks the end of the hiking portion of this excursion.

Next, we’ll depart by bus for the Eufrosina Winery. This stop is not only for lunch, but also to enjoy the stunning surroundings of this place, which they care so deeply for and protect. An alternative lunch option is the Pino de La Virgen restaurant.

At the end of the tour, we’ll head towards the coast of the municipality of Tijarafe. After a breathtaking descent down a road where our drivers can demonstrate their skill behind the wheel, we’ll arrive at the parking area. From there, a concrete path leads to Porís, a 10-minute walk. This will take us to Porís, a charming spot bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. The area’s natural light creates a tranquil space that will captivate you. It’s a true treasure for both locals and visitors. All that remains is the return to the eastern side of the island, but not before enjoying the best views of the Aridane Valley from the El Time viewpoint.
