EXPLORE THE SPECTACULAR CALDERA DE TABURIENTE HIKE IN LA PALMA
Discovering the heart of La Palma is possible through a route that nature lovers can’t miss: the Caldera de Taburiente. It is characterized as one of the world’s largest erosion craters, with a diameter of approximately 8 kilometers and a depth of up to 2,000 meters. It showcases geological formations of great interest and boasts a wide variety of flora and fauna. Declared a National Park in 1954, it is one of the island’s main attractions, indescribable only through photographs. It must be experienced in person.
From the Mirador de Los Brecitos (1,040 m. altitude), starting point of this spectacularly beautiful hike in La Palma, we contemplate how the Canary pine forest protects and shelters the Caldera and enjoy wonderful views towards the interior of the National Park and towards Pico Bejenado.
The PR LP 13 trail will take us into the heart of the lush La Caldera de Taburiente National Park, crossing wooden bridges, ravines with year-round streams, brooks, and waterfalls. At the campsite on the Taburiente River, you can enjoy a refreshing dip in its cool, crystal-clear waters. We continue along a trail that will test our legs, but will reward us with stunning views, always keeping in mind the majestic Roque Idafe, a sacred symbol for the indigenous people.
We will wind through the Taburiente Ravine until we reach another must-see place, the Cascada de Colores (Waterfall of Colors), a representative icon of the island where ochre, green and reddish tones magically blend to give us an idyllic place.
Finally, we will take the natural exit of the Barranco de Las Angustias, paying special attention to the shape of the rocks found here.
Come and feel the heartbeat of La Palma because La Palma is much more than a volcano.
*Depending on weather conditions and recommendations from the relevant authorities (National Parks), the route may change, with entry and exit via the Los Brecitos viewpoint
