DISCOVER ROQUE DE LOS MUCHACHOS AND LA PALMA’S MOST SPECTACULAR VIEWS
Roque de Los Muchachos, the highest point on the island of La Palma, is a privileged spot for stargazing at sunset and the ideal place to understand the beginning of the formation of what is known as the “Beautiful Island.” We will reach it on our bus excursion, traveling through several municipalities on the island.
We begin in Tajuya Square, a place that has become an impromptu and privileged viewpoint of the recent volcanic eruption of Tajogaite. From here we can see part of the new volcanic edifice and the lava flows left behind by this natural phenomenon that marked a turning point in the lives of all the inhabitants of La Palma.
We continue our route because El Time awaits us, an impressive viewpoint located 594 meters above sea level, offering an unbeatable perspective of the Aridane Valley, as well as the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. Our journey continues towards the charming town of Puntagorda where we will visit the Farmers’ Market, a weekly meeting point showcasing local products from farmers, artisans, and bakers.
After climbing a winding road, we arrived at the natural balcony of Roque de Los Muchachos. It’s considered one of the best places in the world for astronomical observation due to the quality of its sky, and for this reason, internationally renowned telescopes are located here. The view from the island’s summit is breathtaking: at our feet, the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the world’s largest erosion craters and a geological gem; on clear days, we can see the silhouettes of the neighboring islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife. And all around us, various viewpoints extend along the ridges, offering majestic vistas. Furthermore, if you travel to La Palma in spring, in May, this excursion has an extra treat: the summit bloom, when the area around Roque transforms into a vibrant display of yellow broom or the pink of our endemic species, the pink tajinaste.
On our descent along the east side of the island, we will see different vegetation zones found in the Canary Islands, on the islands with the highest relief, and we will see almost the entire course of the Barranco de Las Angustias from the Mirador de Los Andenes viewpoint.
We cannot finish without visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows, patron saint of the island and the Mirador de La Concepción from where we will enjoy magnificent views of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Las Breñas and the east coast.
